Hi Carrie,
Here is the link for my Jing. Please let me know if this is correct and I did it right for this part. I am working on the lesson plans. I may need an extension, but hoping not. I have all the ideas and know what I want to do I just have to sit down and type it out.

This is a picture of my daughter. She got an ipod touch for her birthday. She has used her new device this summer to text friends, call friends, download music, play games, to check the weather, and created a mock entertainment interview with a friend. The possible uses in the classroom are endless. There are apps that can be incorporated into lessons, such as Evernote to catch up on missing work or Toonstation to work on story elements and creating their own stories. Students could also get together with a partner to create mock interviews with a character in a story. The other picture is of my son, laying in bed with his ipod touch using facetime to talk with my daughter who is in her bed. Students could use facetime to talk with students in other parts of the world.

pic for the 21st century learning

Hi,
This is a picture of my husband using an Ipad. While, we both choose to use it for entertainment and fun at home it can definitely be used as a valuable tool in the classroom. For example, through the nook or kindle apps we could use e-books for students to use in literature circles or discussion groups. They could then respond with each other via a wiki or blog. This would allow the students to have the latest books at their level. Through the IPrompt app students would be able to improve fluency at their own rate and level. Through Keynote students would be able to create multimedia presentations in any subject area. Through the USA Today and the New York Times apps they would be able to keep up on the most current happenings around the world and discuss them in their classrooms. Our IEP students would greatly benefit from Dragon Dictation, which allows them to dictate words, and the Ipad creates the document for them. The Evernote app would allow for absent students that missed a day to access any work they missed. Story Buddy would allow students to create e-stories and save them. Toonstation would provide additional support with story elements and let students create their own digital stories by selecting characters, and other events. Our job is to create productive students that will have the necessary skills to become productive members of society. Using Ipads in the classroom is just one more way to help us reach our goal. By the time our students graduate from high school the world be even more technology based in all areas, and it our job to prepare them in any way that we can.

T&L 2.0 - Picture of 21st Century Learning- Bo

My daughter Lexi is ordering her dinner with the use of an iPad at a restaurant called Stacked.

The restaurant did not have your typical waiter/waitress to wait on you....Every table had an iPad attached to it and even the bar area had portable iPads for the customers. All food/drink was ordered through the iPad and different employees would bring you your food/drink as your entered each part of your order.....Throughout your meal, you could view your updated bill as it changed and we paid using the iPad at the end. It even computed our tip and we had our receipt emailed to us to save on paper.

I can see the increase in technology like this being utilized in other restaurants in the future. Our students need to be properly educated and prepared for the onslaught of technology that is going to be surround them the rest of their lives.

This is an image of 2 pictures of the title screens used in a music video that I created in 2008.  A couple of years ago, I helped co-lead student council at the school I taught at in Perrysburg.  I was taking a tech class at the same time we were brainstorming ways that our student council could get involved in Right to Read Week.  I suggested a music video.  We took the song Words Are Your Wheels by Phil Vassar and Friends (a random single that I had bought years before), and the kids found ways to illustrate the words - through digital pics, video, clip art, or hand drawn pictures.  I then took the images, put them together in imovie, and added the words and music.  We were able to hook a DVD player up to our video announcements and play the music video during Right to Read Week.  (I will bring the video to class on Wednesday if anyone is interested in watching it.)  Obviously with older students or if you had more time than what I did, the students could be involved a lot more with actually editing the video.

Brittany's 21st Century Picture

This is a screenshot (taken by Jing, not a digital camera...hope that is okay, Carrie!) of my Google Reader subscriptions. Google Reader has totally changed my life and my ability to stay up-to-date on all the current trends in technology, children's/YA books, and everything teacher-librarian. I am not sure how much you have already talked about Professional Learning Networks (PLNs), but this is a huge part of mine. Google Reader allows you to have a one stop shop for all the blogs you want to read but cannot remember all the URLs or do not want to have that many links in your bookmarks. (I believe Blogger also has this ability, although I am unsure if you can only subscribe to Blogger blogs or any blog.) There are many people in the library media profession that I consider my rock stars and with technology I can stay up to date on what they are doing in their classrooms, new technology trends/resources, what cool new books they have read, etc. I would be lost without my PLN and am so thankful technology has allowed everyone the ability to share their great ideas.

Hi Carrie,
This is a picture of my daughter and my grandpup using her pads on our iPad!
The iPad is a very portable and convenient window to our world.  The applications are countless and the instant access to information is amazing.
I have seen special education students use this hands-on device to engage them in their learning.  I believe all students could benefit from the style of this type of computing, especially because of the touch-screen functions.  There is a newer version already and other technology companies are following with similar designs.  It's a dog's life!

This picture was taken on my mission trip to Choluteca, Honduras (the 2nd poorest city there) two weeks ago. Last year we helped lay the foundation for this building which has 2 classrooms, this computer lab and a bilingual classroom. These computer classes are in addition to the regular school the students attend. Technology is every where!

Attached are my pictures demonstrating 21st teaching or learning.  The first picture is a sign posted outside of the administration building in Perrysburg, where I live. The sign is encouraging the community to log on to the district's facebook page in order to learn about the happenings in Perrysburg schools.  Since so many people are facebook users, Perrysburg is utilizing this form of technology to keep parents, students, and other citizens informed via computer what is going on in the schools.  This makes communication constant, quick, and easily accessed.
My second picture is my son using his sister's DSi to practice learning his colors.  At the age of two, he is able to properly hold the stylus and can verbally and physically select the colors he wants to draw with.  What a fun and active method to learn this basic preschool concept.

OK, sorry! This one is a pic of my iTunes library. So the following message goes with the previous picture of iMovies. I use iMovies frequently throughout the year. Students use them for announcements, commercials, concept reviews, projects, sporting events, a virtual tour of the JH for incoming 6th graders, and end of year memories. We even made an iMovie for Lester to take to China that showcased the JH. He downloaded it to his iPad.

This is a photo of my iTunes library. iTunes can be used to connect with students and capture their attention for a lesson. I use them for announcements, slide shows, announcements, or to illustrate a particular concept, for example, Kelly Clarkson's "Breakaway" to draw students into the American Revolution.

This is a KWHLAQ chart for 21st century learners. I think it really exemplifies TL2.0 because while most of us know the KWL, H stands for How do I find out, A stands for What action will I take, and Q stand for what new questions do I have. I think this shows that learning never really ends and relates to today's ever-changing technology.

This is a picture of geocaching on a cell phone. I took a class last year on educaching and I am hoping to purchase GPS receivers to use with my students. Geocaching is a treasure hunting game where you use a GPS to hide and seek containers. With students you can create problems for them to solve in order to get the coordinates for the next cache.

Teaching & Learning 2.0

What is teaching and learning 2.0?
  • One key to teaching and learning 2.0 is communication through many different avenues...email, phone, texts, face to face, etc.

  • Along with communication, a second key is collaboration between coworkers, students, parents, etc.

  • A third key is creativity.  This can be achieved through many different means.

  • Lastly, critical thinking is an important part to teaching and learning 2.0.

Blooms' Taxonomy

In Spanish I think that I really need to focus more on Application for students.  I know students have a hard time applying what they have learned and using it in different situations.  The students keep phrases together, rather than mixing phrases with others once they have learned new things.  I really want the students to be able to organize their thoughts and manipulate the language so that they are able to come up with a combination of thoughts and phrases and actually create their own sentences.

Knowledge/Retention/Remembering

I believe that sometimes I am so concerned about the higher/upper
levels of learning, that I don't focus on retention of factual information.
Remembering is the foundation for tasks in the other levels, so I would
like to remember to help them remember more.

SAS

In art I need to focus more on how to allow the students use synthesis in their projects.  They need to think creatively without so much direction from me.  Creative thinking makes for much more interesting and creative works of art.  I do this very well with in my advanced classes but not so much in the fundamentals.

I need to focus more attention on the remembering thinking skill in Bloom's taxonomy.  If I do not engage my students right from the start, I will lose their focus on the lesson.  Students need to be given a motivation for learning something, and that motivation sometimes stems from feeling comfortable and excited about a unit.
